First Visit
When you arrive for your first visit, please be prepared to complete a two-sided form, providing insurance and health information that will allow us to begin your dental treatment, We ask new patients to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes prior to your appointment time so you'll be ready when we are. Our seasoned patients know that we do our very best to stay on time, and arrive early for appointments on a regular basis.
Please bring a list of prescription medicines, insurance card, name and phone number of your physician and any other pertinent information to your first visit.
If you have had a full-mouth series of Xrays taken in the last 3 to 5 years, you should contact the dental office where those Xrays were taken, and ask them to send a copy to our office. This would avoid you having to pay for additional Xrays.
Your initial exam will last approximately thirty to forty-five minutes, depending on how complicated your dental condition is. During this visit, in addition to a full examination, needed Xrays and an oral cancer screening. Dr. Martin will provide an evaluation that will outline any existing dental problems and proposed treatment. During your first visit to our hygienist, she will provide brushing and flossing techniques along with suggestions to help you care for any specific challenges.
Our office offers a full range of dental services from preventive dentistry and soft tissue (gums) management to cosmetic and reconstructive procedures like tooth whitening, bonding, tooth-colored restorations and dental implants. For many oral health problems, we can offer multiple treatment options. These options may vary in complexity, durability and cost. The treatment chosen depends on what Dr. Martin and you, the patient, decide is best for your individual needs. Our patient's needs are taken seriously and we treat each patient with respect and a strong sense of professionalism.
Premedication
If you have any of the following conditions:
- heart murmur
- chemotherapy
- any artificial prosthesis placed (such as knee replacement, hip replacement, lap-band surgery, pacemaker, breast implants, etc.)
- rheumatic fever
- heart valve replacement/ surgery
- mitro-valve prolapse
- any surgery within 2 months prior to your dental appointment
- any type of transplant
Please contact your primary care physician or surgeon and ask if you will need to take an antibiotic prior to any dental procedures and notify our office.
Also, if you are on any blood thinner such as Plavix, aspirin, Coumadin, etc., please check with your Primary Care Physician to see if this medication should be either reduced or discontinued prior to any dental work.
Just as we make every effort to stay on time, we expect our patients cooperation in making and keeping appointments. Last minute cancellations and worse, failure to appear for an appointment should be avoided at all costs. When an appointment is made with our office you will be given an appointment card with the date and time of your future appointment clearly printed. This is to post in a conspicuous spot -- your calendar or refrigerator -- as a reminder. We attempt to call each patient to re-confirm their appointment the day prior, but these calls are a courtesy only.
We're committed to providing a safe and clean treatment environment for each of our patients. We go beyond the strict CDC requirements in disinfecting all examining room surfaces including dental chairs, examining light, Xray equipment, drawer handles and counter tops before our patients enter the room. In addition, everything that goes in your mouth is either steam and pressure sterilized, or disposable.
Our goal is to provide the best dental care for the entire family in a caring and comfortable environment. Prevention and good home habits are the key to optimum dental health. Preventing problems is much less costly than correcting problems once they occur. Good health is no accident. It is the result of good home care and regular professional care. We want you, our patients, to keep your smile healthy for a lifetime.
